5 Ingredient Tomato Soup In A Bread Bowl

A delicious tomato soup using only 5 ingredients. We are serving up in a a cheesy bread bowl.

(This recipe makes 2 generous servings so double the recipe to make for 4 people)


4-5 tbsps butter

1/2 onion, diced

2 tbsps minced garlic

28 oz can of whole tomatoes

1.5 cups of broth of choice

Salt, optional

(For bread bowl: two bread bowls, vegan butter and vegan cheese)


Heat a large pot to medium

Add in your butter

Once melted add in your onion

Cook until translucent

Add in your garlic and cook for 1 minute

Add in your tomatoes, broth and pinch of salt if using

Stir and bring to a low boil

Turn heat to medium low and simmer for 30-45 minutes stirring a few times

Time to blend the soup

You can use a blender or we used an immersion blender

Blend until desired consistency, we like it creamy

Soup is ready to serve

Bread bowl recipe

Cut top of bread bowl, save the top

Scoop out the inside, you can use this for dipping and making croutons or breadcrumbs later

Place your bowls and tops onto baking sheet 

Spread melted butter on the inside of bowls and inside of tops

Sprinkle with vegan cheese shreds

Bake at 375 for roughly 10 minutes until cheese has melted

Remove from oven when cheese has melted

To serve

Using a ladle scoop your soup into bread bowl

Top with garnish, we used basil

Serve with cheese top
